![]() ![]() As for any extras, there's different unlockable modes after you beat the game, Hard Mode (Speeds up some of the bosses, again, once you know the pattern, all you have to do is speed yourself up, it's not hard) Iron Mode (The typical "one life" thing they put into "hardcore" games) and No Roll mode (AKA: The only mode that makes a difference to gameplay) So, in the end, it's an extremely short boss rush, the game likes to think otherwise however and doesn't reload outside the boss on death for some reason, the overworld itself isn't needed in the slightest (there were a few "puzzles" but nothing you won't figure out in a few seconds) and there isn't an actual boss rush "mode", what were they thinking!? … Expand It lasted me 45 minutes my first playthrough and there's no incentive other than improving my time to play through it again. It's basically a boss rush hidden away in a empty overworld, each boss has a simple pattern to learn and you can kill them in one hit, that quickly means that as soon as you figure out how a boss works (It doesn't take long at all, bosses have at most three attack patterns) the challenge is gone, you can kill it without even thinking about it, so in the end, each boss lasts 1-20 seconds. Defeating titans was definitely satisfying but ultimately it didn't outweigh the bad enough to make me really want to recommend it.Most people would call this a 2D Shadow of the Collosus, while that is true to an extent, it's much, much less than that. ![]() ![]() I even managed to find some ancient, dormant giant that gave me a Steam achievement. Otherwise, I rather enjoyed the peaceful exploration. And if you failed to beat it, you were spawned at the beginning of the maze. I think there was a plant titan at some point, and to reach it you must navigate a forest maze. Not respawning per se, but sometimes the respawn point was too far from the titan I was currently trying to beat. I think the one thing that put me off the most was respawning. I managed to beat the game and the secret final Titan in about 4.5 in-game hours. I'm a fan of challenge and a huge fan of Shadow of the Colossus.īut I do feel like we had a similar reaction to the game, it sure had it's good parts but the flaws were enough to keep me from wanting to play it again. Even though I didn't particularly love all my time spent with the game, if you like a challenge, those 18 (19 if you're a completionist) moments where you reign victorious, just might make the whole thing worthwhile. It was a love/hate relationship with game, it's brutally difficult, but when you do fire that perfect shot and take down a Titan, there are few better feelings in video games, that's what kept me chugging through 6 hours, 21 minutes, 51 seconds and 495 deaths. The graphics and sound are quite nice, the game plays well on Vita despite some very long loading times between deaths, thank goodness for smart phones in that regard. Well, I didn't really enjoy it, so this one's getting shelved. There is a 19th boss, but typically when I see credits, it's time to move on to another game in the pile unless I'm really enjoying it. There's a vast overworld, but there's not a whole lot to do in it, and your character, equipped with a bow and a singular retrievable arrow must take down 18 titans to reach the credits. I'd remember hearing some comparisons to Zelda, but it's actually much closer to Shadow of the Colossus if we're going to be making comparisons. This game's been on my radar for some time, so I was excited when it was "free" with PlayStation Plus in January. ![]()
